In the Battle of the Brands, the Southern-brand contest hosted by Garden & Gun magazine, Little Debbie beat out MoonPie in the first round.
In the contest, set up like the NCAA basketball bracket, the winners announced today now move on to Round Two - the Sweet 16 - then into the finals. The ultimate winner will be announced on April 8.
In the Sweets category, two Chattanooga brands - Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pie and MoonPies - faced off against each other, and Little Debbie won. Now the local snack must face against North Carolina-based Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Mayfield Ice Cream of Athens, Tenn., also lost to Blue Bell Ice Cream of Texas.
In the Pantry contests, Tabasco Pepper Sauce beat out Texas Pete Hot Sauce; Martha White Flour defeated White Lily Flour (both are Tennessee based); Duke's Mayonnaise beat Zatarain's Creole Mustard; and Old Bay Seasoning beat Dale's Seasoning.
Other winners include Coca-Cola over RC Cola, Lance Toast Chee Crackers over Peanut Patch Boiled Peanuts and Zapp's Chips over Golden Flake.
