Dalton, Ga., seeking help in identifying suspect in pickup truck theft

The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect in a vehicle theft, according to a news release.

The vehicle, described as a red 2005 Chevy Silverado with a red camper top, was stolen from an apartment complex at 216 Easterling St. around 10 p.m. on Jan. 19.

According to the release, the vehicle was left unlocked and contained about $1,100 in tools and equipment.

The truck was recovered behind a Chattanooga gas station on Shallowford Road a few days later.

Dalton detectives determined that a white male suspect abandoned the vehicle there with a flat tire, asking the store owner if he could park it there until he could get help, the release states.

The suspect never returned for the vehicle and the store owner had it towed. The towing company contacted the Chattanooga Police Department and requested they run the vehicle's tags and found that it was stolen.

The vehicle was returned to the owners, but the tools and equipment were missing.

Detectives determined from video surveillance inside the store that the suspect is a white male who wore a red baseball cap backwards.

If anyone has any information on the man, please contact Detective Sam Eaton at 706-278-9085, ext. 158.
