Grocery store worker near Atlanta wins big on her lunch hour

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - A grocery store worker near Atlanta made more money on her lunch break than many people earn in a lifetime.

Angelia Salas, who works at a Publix store in Sandy Springs, purchased her lucky ticket while on her break at the store.

It turned out to be a lucrative lunch break: She won the top prize playing the instant game $550,000 Grand Money.

The 50-year-old Smyrna woman has big plans for the winnings. Salas said she plans to put an end to some bills - her car note, her father's car note and her father's mortgage.

"I feel like the whole world has been lifted off of me," she said in a statement released by the lottery today.

The Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program, lottery officials said.
