Police say Chaston Leodis Cross was not happy two weeks ago when he saw his ex-girlfriend at her place of employment: BJ's Puss N Boots.

Cross, 38, attacked her in the parking lot, according to an arrest report. He chased her inside and attacked her there, too. Eventually, he whipped out a gun and fired, according to the report.

On Wednesday, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office arrested Cross on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a controlled substance. A warrant citing six witnesses gives this account:

Cross approached his ex-girlfriend in the nightclub's parking lot and threw a beer on her. Then he chased her inside, where he pulled out his handgun and struck her on the head, fracturing her skull.

Then he pulled the trigger. A bullet pierced the woman's right shoulder, and Cross left.

The victim, whose name was not listed in the arrest report, underwent surgery at Erlanger. Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Officers brought Cross to the Hamilton County Jail on Wednesday, where he is being held in lieu of a $230,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court before Judge Christine Sell on Monday at 8:30 a.m.
