Chattanooga police investigating 2 break-ins on North Shore

Connelly Caughey makes sure the windows are shut and locked. The doors have to be locked, too.

Normally, that's not part of the 25-year-old North Shore resident's ritual at home.

However, after two women had break-ins when they were at home this week, neighbors are taking precautions.

"I feel pretty safe, but it's still scary," said Caughey as she walked her golden retriever mix, Bella, Wednesday afternoon.

Chattanooga police said the break-ins took place on Forest Avenue and Glenroy Avenue on Monday night. Neither of the women was sexually assaulted or injured, according to police. It's unclear whether the break-ins are related.

The women screamed for help, and the intruders fled.

Caughey said there was a break-in at her home on Fairmount Avenue not long ago. Her roommate's computer was taken. Break-ins have increased in the neighborhood lately, but the fact that the intruder(s) decided to break in when the women were home is unnerving, she said.

Police have detectives working the cases and have increased patrols in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525.
