9-year-old girl accused in Jackson, Tenn., of lying about abduction

JACKSON, Tenn. - Jackson police say they will pursue charges against a 9-year-old girl accused of lying about being abducted.

The Jackson Sun reports that the girl will be petitioned into juvenile court to answer a charge of filing a false report.

Police say the girl told officers Tuesday that she had been waiting for a ride after a school function when a red Honda car pulled up and a Hispanic man approached her, covered her mouth and forced her into the back seat.

The girl told officers that the man later pulled over and let her go after he saw a police car behind them.

Police say investigators found inconsistencies in the story and the girl later acknowledged the story had been fabricated.
