NASHVILLE - Gov. Bill Haslam says the U.S. Small Business Administration has granted his disaster declaration request for five counties after last month's severe storms and flash flooding.

A statement from the governor's office released Friday says the declaration makes homeowners and businesses affected by the disaster eligible for low-interest loans. The declaration includes Benton, Henry, Houston, Montgomery and Stewart counties.

Stewart County and surrounding areas were hit by strong storms April 26. The National Weather Service reported rainfall totals of up to six inches that resulted in localized flash flooding.

A damage survey identified 40 homes and eight businesses with major damage.

The SBA will open temporary offices to help homeowners and businesses with the disaster loan process.
