Perdue to explore U.S. Senate bid

ATLANTA - Georgia businessman David Perdue, cousin of former Gov. Sonny Perdue, says he's exploring a bid for U.S. Senate.

The Republican is the former CEO of Dollar General and Reebok. Perdue said Tuesday he has formed an exploratory committee and will be meeting with voters over the next few weeks as he makes a final decision.

The upcoming retirement of Republican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss has set off a flurry of interest in the seat.

If he does run, Perdue would join an already crowded field as U.S. Reps. Paul Broun, of Athens; Phil Gingrey, of Marietta; and Jack Kingston, of Savannah, have said they will compete in the 2014 Republican primary.

Saban's daughter to get records

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A Tuscaloosa County judge is ordering the University of Alabama's counseling center to turn over records sought by the daughter of Alabama football coach Nick Saban in a lawsuit.

A judge says the counseling service must release information about Sarah Grimes, who sued Kristen Saban last year over a fight.

But the records won't be open to the public, and the judge says anything that isn't used in court must either be returned to the counseling center or destroyed.

The university opposed the subpoena.

Grimes sued Kristen Saban last year over injuries she says occurred during a fight between the two women in 2010. The coach's daughter doesn't deny there was a fight, but she blames the 23-year-old Grimes.

The women were members of the same sorority at Alabama.

Body recovered near speedway

TALLADEGA, Ala. - The body of a NASCAR fan who was reported missing after a race has been found near the Talladega Superspeedway, authorities in Talladega County said Tuesday.

Deputy Coroner Larry Seals told the Anniston Star the body of Nicholas Bower, 28, of Villa Rica, Ga., was found by an Etowah County Sheriff's Office helicopter in the Choccolocco Creek, near the campground where he was last seen.

Authorities have said Bower came to the race with his girlfriend and co-workers from Fastenal, the construction fastener company for which he worked in Atlanta.

He was reported missing May 4. Foul play is not suspected in Bower's death, Sheriff Jimmy Kilgore said in a statement.
