Hundreds of people turned out today for the grand opening of the area's only water park, Soakya, at Lake Winnepesaukah.

After an official ceremony that included speeches from state lawmakers and the Georgia tourism office, guests were allowed to enter at 1 p.m.

"Congratulations to everybody who has worked so diligently," said Talley Green, the daughter of the parks operator and public relations manager, to a crowd waiting to enter.

The five-acre, multimillion-dollar park addition premiered in bright sunlight on one of the first days of summer vacation. Lifeguards were on duty throughout the park, and long lines formed quickly at the adventure river and tube slides.
