KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Kingsport police are investigating debit card fraud involving dozens of customers of a credit union.
According to the Kingsport Times-News, fraudulent purchases began showing up over the Memorial Day weekend with transactions made in Nevada and Florida.
First Kingsport Credit Union manager and CEO Beverly Bowling said by Thursday morning the institution was aware of at least 60 cases. The credit union is issuing new cards to members and is fully reimbursing the fraudulent purchases, which range from $25 to $900.
Kingsport Police Department Lt. Sean Chambers said detectives are investigating how thieves obtained account information to carry out the fraud.
