Ex-DJ who wore police dog 'bite suit' sues Alabama city

DOTHAN, Ala. - A former radio disc jockey in southeast Alabama says in a lawsuit that he was injured while wearing a "bite suit" during a Dothan police dog demonstration.

Jerry Broadway, a former Dothan DJ, maintains the city was negligent.

The Dothan Eagle reports that the case involves a Citizens Police Academy event in June 2012. Broadway says he agreed to put on the bite suit and allow a police K-9 to demonstrate a "take down," but wasn't warned of the potential danger.

His lawyer, Adam Jones, says the dog leaped forward and grabbed Broadway's arm. He said the dog didn't puncture the bite suit, but the injury required surgery.

The dog "basically leaped forward, grabbed onto his arm and yanked it downward," Jones said.

"He couldn't brace his fall because the dog had hold of his arm," Jones said. "Basically it was severe enough it required surgery to his shoulder."

Broadway is now part of a radio show in the Tulsa, Okla., area.

Dothan's city attorney could not immediately be reached.
