Alabama GOP state Rep. Wes Long won't seek re-election

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. - Republican state Rep. Wes Long of Guntersville says he won't seek a second term in 2014.

Long said in a news release that serving in the Legislature requires him to spend a lot of time away from his wife and two children, and he wants to have more time to focus on his family. Long says he will serve his full term through November 2014.

Long is an attorney and businessman. He defeated Democratic incumbent Jeff McLaughlin of Guntersville in 2010 to help Republicans win control of the Legislature from Democrats.
