International student enrollment up in Alabama

DOTHAN, Ala. - State higher education officials say the state has seen an increase in the number of international students coming to Alabama.

Alabama Commission on Higher Education statistics show that more than 2,800 international students were enrolled in college classes in Alabama in 2011, which is the most recent year for which statistics are available.

State education officials say less than 1,000 international students were studying in the state in 2006.

The Dothan Eagle reported Monday that most international students in the state are originally from China and the second largest group is from Saudi Arabia.
