See MACC teachers in a new light through upcoming performance

For those who have not experienced the talents of the teachers at MACC firsthand, they - and the rest of the community - have a chance to witness their expertise at the inaugural MACC Teachers Showcase Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.

"I think it is going to be the perfect opportunity to see the caliber of teachers we have here at the MACC, and it will be a light and entertaining evening for the family," said MACC Director Barb Storm, who is among those performing.

She said several parents of music students had suggested a performance by the MACC's teachers, and the MACC board agreed that it was a great idea. The MACC Teachers Showcase was then added to the Music at the MACC series, and Storm said the teachers will likely hold future performances twice a year.

The evening will include performances in a variety of art forms such as dance, drama and music.

Piano teacher Johan Sentana will perform an arrangement of the Welsh hymn "Ash Grove," plus another tune yet to be determined.

Performing "Clarinet Polka" will be piano teacher Michael Huseman on piano and Storm on clarinet. The pair will also perform a Gershwin piece and perhaps a Benny Goodman tune. They will be accompanied by Jim Palmour on guitar and Chip Hancock on the drums.

Hammered dulcimer teacher Dan Landrum will be accompanied by Storm on clarinet performing Bach's "Siciliano for Flute and Harpsichord."

Drama teacher Colleen Laliberte will have her students put on a scene from Huseman's original play "The Christmas That Came Too Soon."

Brittany Mills of Chattanooga Ballet will perform a dance piece, and Melinda and Don Grohman will perform on violin and cello. Trish Wileman, voice teacher, will also display her talent.
