Limestone County man arrested after meth lab fire

ATHENS, Ala. - Limestone County Sheriff's officials say a man who rescued his mother from a burning mobile home has been arrested after authorities found a meth lab inside of it.

AL.com reported Wednesday that 32-year-old Randall Thomas Swafford is charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff Mike Blakely says a deputy on patrol noticed a fire at a mobile home and saw Swafford pulling his mother out of the house. The deputy said he saw a one-pot meth lab burning in the front yard.

After finding coffee filters in Swafford's pocket, the deputy called a narcotics investigator who searched the house and found a meth lab in the bedroom, which is where the fire started.

It's unclear if Swafford has an attorney.
