Charges against alleged Alabama predator dropped

TALLASSEE, Ala. - Elmore County District Attorney Randall Houston says more than 100 criminal counts filed against an alleged child predator have been dropped.

Houston told WSFA-TV Tuesday that some of the original victim's statements against Stephen Conrad were forced, and only three of them would hold up in court.

Conrad is accused of child sexual abuse and rape.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports the Former Tallassee assistant police chief who handled Conrad's case is under investigation for allegations of theft, ethics violations and civil rights violations.

Elmore County Assistant District Attorney C.J. Robinson says the Alabama Bureau of Investigation was able to confirm five charges and prosecutors hope to negotiate a plea deal Friday. If a deal isn't reached, Robinson says the case will be dismissed and will have to start over again.
