Former Hardin County (Tenn.) deputy clerk charged with theft

JACKSON, Tenn. - Authorities say a former Hardin County Circuit Court deputy clerk has been charged with stealing money from the clerk's office.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says 32-year-old Amber Renee Terry surrendered to authorities at the Hardin County Jail on Tuesday and was arrested and booked on a $5,000 bond. It was not immediately clear if she had a lawyer or was still in jail.

Terry, of Savannah, is charged with theft of property over $10,000 and official misconduct.

The TBI says money was discovered missing from the clerk's office in April. The TBI says Terry first told auditors she was robbed twice while taking deposits to a bank but never reported it.

The TBI says Terry later acknowledged making up the robberies and said she took between $13,500 and $14,000.
