ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. - The Minnesota State Patrol says one of five children rescued after being trapped in a submerged car in suburban Minneapolis has died.
The patrol announced on its website that 5-year-old Zenavia C. Rennie of Brooklyn Center died Thursday. She was one of five children rescued earlier in the day from a car that veered off a highway ramp and into a frigid pond.
The car was under water for up to 45 minutes.
St. Louis Park city spokesman Jamie Zwilling said the children were unconscious and unresponsive when pulled from the vehicle.
The driver of the car was the mother of some of the children and stepmother to the others. She made it out on her own. One witness described seeing her in the pond, screaming for help.
