TVA completes refueling of unit one at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant

The Tennessee Valley Authority has announced its completion of the refueling of unit one at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and said the power output will be raised over the next couple of days until it is at full capacity.

TVA said 93 fuel assemblies were replaced during the outage.

"The nuclear professionals at Sequoyah worked tirelessly to manage the Unit 1 outage safely, while continuing to operate Unit 2 at 100 percent power," John Carlin, Sequoyah site vice presiden, saidt. "The work accomplished during the outage will ensure safe and reliable operations at Sequoyah."

About 950 contractors augmented Sequoyah's employees during the outage, providing a more than $5 million boost to the local economy, TVA said in a news release.
