UT college of engineering establishes endowment

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The College of Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has established a $3 million endowed deanship.

It's in honor of Dean Wayne Davis. Since becoming interim dean in 2008 and then dean a year later, university officials say Davis has fostered growth in the college's enrollment, rankings and resources in a tough economy.

The college's undergraduate enrollment has grown by 37 percent and its number of doctoral candidates has increased by 62 percent.

The endowed deanship is the first for the college and second for the university.
