Bradley County Jail inmate Victor Dale Thomas has been charged with soliciting the murder of his former wife from his jail cell, according to the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

Thomas, 57, has been in custody at the jail since June 25, when he was arrested for failing to appear in court on a charge of aggravated assault, as well as charges of drug possession and worthless checks.

Thomas' ex-wife is the victim in the aggravated assault case he was placed in custody for, records show.

Sometime after his incarceration, Thomas approached another inmate about killing his ex-wife after that inmate would be released from custody, according to a news release. That other inmate notified correction officers, and they in turn contacted the sheriff's office.

After four months of investigation, Thomas was indicted last week by a Bradley County grand jury for solicitation to commit first-degree murder, a class B felony.

He was arraigned in Criminal Court and is due back March 10.
