Fundraising efforts at Daisy Church of God during the annual Soddy-Daisy Christmas Parade will benefit Project TEAM, a mission trip to Guatemala planned for July 2014.
Volunteers from the church will be selling popcorn, hot chocolate and other refreshments outside the church along the route of the parade, which takes place Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.
Project TEAM is part of the church's larger effort to increase the assistance it offers in the community as well as abroad, said pastor Herschell Baker.
The church's goal in the next five years is to expand its giving to 25 percent of the church's total income, said Baker, who became the church's pastor in January. Daisy COG plans to slowly move toward that goal by offering 5 percent of its income this year and then raising that amount by 5 percent increments each year.
The church has also expanded its outreach by partnering with local organizations such as the Soddy Daisy Food Bank.
"We didn't just want to offer support financially," said Baker. "We want people to experience [outreach ministry] themselves."
That is where Project TEAM comes in, he said.
"It's part of a larger program to become a church that's strong in itself - strong enough to reach out to the community and the world," said Baker.
The church is holding various prayer meetings and fundraisers to raise money for the trip, which is open to any believer who is interested in making a difference, he said.
