Signal plans strategic meeting for February

The town of Signal Mountain is looking into its future with an upcoming strategic planning meeting, likely to be held in Feb. 7.

The meeting will be facilitated by a Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) consultant - possibly former Signal Mountain town manager Honna Rogers - and includes Town Council members and Town Manager Chris Dorsey.

Though the details of what exactly will be discussed at the strategic planning meeting have yet to be nailed down, Dorsey said it will consist of a thorough brainstorming session.

"I'm hoping it's going to be an all-day meeting," he added. "I just want to walk through with the Council what some of their goals and objectives are."

A possible topic up for discussion is a capital improvement plan for the town - especially with projects like resurfacing James Boulevard, constructing a new Public Works building and improving the Mountain Arts Community Center on the table.

"[A strategic planning meeting] is just something you do every now and then every few years. It allows us to get together and discuss, 'What are our priorities and how are we going to pay for those things?'" explained Vice Mayor Susan Robertson. "The facilitator ... gives us an objective, outside point of view and leads the discussion so we don't get off track."

The strategic planning meeting will be open to the public, and its official date will be discussed during upcoming Council meetings, said Dorsey.
