Atlanta's transit system to hold emergency drill this weekend

ATLANTA - Atlanta's transit system plans conduct annual emergency training exercises this weekend.

MARTA will stage an emergency incident at College Park station from 8 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday. MARTA says the drills give transit police, transit system staff and other emergency response agents a practice responding to incidents like terrorist attacks, pandemics and natural disasters.

The exercise won't have much impact on MARTA service as the biggest parts will occur at the end of service or after service is over.

To accommodate emergency vehicles, daily parking won't be available there Saturday. Long-term parking won't be affected.

Some street closures will happen around 11 p.m. Saturday.

Residents in the area can expect to hear loud noises and may see light and smoke.
