A West Tennessee mother charged with theft in connection to fundraisers

MEDINA, Tenn. - A West Tennessee mother is facing a theft charge in connection to fundraisers for her son.

The Jackson Sun cited a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in reporting that 35-year-old Jamie Decker is accused of soliciting donations fraudulently based upon a claim that her 11-year-old son suffered from cancer. She is charged with theft over $10,000.

The TBI statement says doctors who treated the boy have determined he does not have cancer.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Decker has an attorney.

The newspaper reports at least $2,405 was donated on a popular web-based fundraising site, and in addition to community fundraising events, the boy also received a trip to Walt Disney World through the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-South.
