Nashville - Gov. Bill Haslam today announced a goal of becoming the "fastest improving" state in the nation when it comes to improving teacher salaries.
"We're asking our students to be the fastest improving in the nation in education achievement and higher accountability for teachers and proven results should be met with better rewards," Haslam said.
The Republican governor made the announcement in a news conference with his state Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman.
Haslam emphasized the effort is a long-term goal.
Huffman agreed, saying it would be a year-by-year effort.
