Civil War buffs to recreate Battle of Collierville

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. - Civil War buffs plan to recreate the Battle of Collierville on its 150th anniversary.

About 75 Civil War re-enactors are expected to descend on the Wolf River Greenway Park north of Collierville for this weekend's event. They will participate in a re-creation of the Confederate's attack on the Union fort guarding the railroad in the city.

The battles take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Spectators also will be able to tour the Confederate and Union camps, visit with the soldiers, hear lectures by area historians and authors, and visit craft and food vendors.

A replica Union fort has been built on the site, similar to Fort Collierville and the ones that guarded the Memphis & Charleston Railroad during the war.
