Hours after a hiker fell and was seriously injured on a trail at Signal Point, another person was injured in a fall elsewhere on Signal Mountain, authorities said.

A 16-year-old youth broke his ankle when he slipped on Falling Water Trail on Signal Mountain, according to Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell.

She said the youth and his stepfather, who both live on Signal Mountain, were riding horses on the trail and stopped for a few minutes. The teen slipped and fell six feet, breaking his right ankle.

Walden's Ridge Emergency Services stabilized youth and carried him out for medical treatment, Maxwell said.

Earlier today, a 21-year-old hiker sustained a head injury when he fell about 30 feet down the bluff at Signal Point.

The point park, a unit of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, is closed because of the federal government shutdown. Maxwell said Falling Water Trail is a state park and remains open.
