Crews finish work to repair I-85 sinkhole near Atlanta

ATLANTA - Georgia transportation officials say parts of two right lanes of Interstate 85 have reopened after being swallowed by a sinkhole.

Department of Transportation officials said the lanes near the northeastern edge of Atlanta reopened this afternoon.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials say it's been years since they've had to fix a sinkhole on an interstate. GDOT says the sinkhole occurred when a drainage system failed earlier this week after heavy rain pelted the area on Sunday night.
