Two dead in 3 motorcycle crashes in Chattanooga over the weekend

Two people are dead and another seriously injured after three separate motorcycle crashes in Chattanooga over the weekend.

Around 10 a.m. Saturday, 23-year-old Alec Newby lost control of his motorcycle and struck a tree on Shallowford Road near Standifer Gap Road, according to a news release.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.


Shortly after midnight today Chattanooga Police responded to a crash involving a motorcyclist in the 4600 block of Access Road.

Witness statements and evidence indicate the motorcyclist drifted to the shoulder of the road, struck the guardrail, and lost control, according to a news release.

Driver 46-year-old Larry Clyde Lowe Jr. was pronounced dead on the scene.


A third accident happened around 3 a.m. today at 17900 I-24 westbound.

Police said the motorcycle, driven by Mark Stanke, crossed into another lane and collided with the vehicle. Passenger Rachel Hensen tumbled into another lane. While she was laying in the roadway, a vehicle ran over her left leg and drove away.

She was transported to a hospital for injuries to her head, leg and other broken bones, and is listed in critical condition.
