TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A Tuscaloosa judge is considering allegations of election misconduct by sororities and fraternities at the University of Alabama.
A judge has set a hearing for today on an election challenge filed by Kelly Horwitz, who lost a Tuscaloosa city school board election in August.
Horwitz claims members of Greek-letter social groups got free drinks and other incentives to vote for opponent Cason Kirby, a former student government president at Alabama.
Court documents filed by Horwitz include copies of what she says are emails and Facebook messages instructing group members how to vote.
Kirby's attorney says the messages don't prove anything. But a lawyer for Horwitz is asking a judge to let her election challenge move forward.
More than 7,000 students belong to fraternities and sororities at Alabama.
