MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Republican State Sen. Jim Tracy today said the campaign of U.S. Rep. Scott Desjarlais, R-Tenn., sounds "desperate" after the campaign criticized Tracy over a December pancake breakfast he hosted for constituents.

"That's the sign of a desperate campaign," Tracy said.

"That breakfast that he's talking about was for constituents," Tracy said. "And it was very successful. It collected a lot of toys for tots and I plan on doing another again this year because it was so successful."

Earlier today, DesJarlais announced he raised more than $113,000 during the third quarter.

Tracy later in the day released his third quarter totals. He raised $181,172 - a bigger sum than DesJarlais' $170,000 in cash on hand. Tracy also reported holding $767,804 in his campaign war chest after having raised $921,000 since the start of the year.

Tracy and DesJarlais are squaring off in the 4th Congressional district primary next year.

The DesJarlais campaign in its news release then charged Tracy "has taken advantage of his special interest contributions. However he is going to need all the money he can get if his plan is to buy the election with $100,000 pancake breakfasts."
