Church vandalized
LaFayette, Ga., police arrested a homeless man who they say smashed a church window and wrote on its front door.
According to an incident report, Officer Brock Campbell and Lt. Robert Dunn responded to a call Monday at 6:30 p.m. from Friendship Baptist Church at 1200 N. Chattanooga St. There, police found a broken-down black Toyota Corolla, a shattered window and a front door with a message scrawled across it.
"Our Father who art in Heaven," the message began, written in purple crayon or marker. "Hollow bee their name thy kingdom come thy will be done as earth as it is in Heaven."
Police also found a sleeping bag hanging through the window. And inside, on the front pew of the church, sat a plastic milk jug, a metal bowl and a pair of sunglasses.
Next to the broken window, officers found a black box that held paperwork belonging to 28-year-old David Tyler MacDaugall. Soon after, police found him on the corner of North Chattanooga Street and Probasco Street.
According to the incident report, officers found a Connecticut ID on MacDaugall. He said he met a man and woman named David and Melissa in Hot Springs, N.C., and that they drove him in their Corolla to Cherokee Farms in LaFayette for Alchemy, a regional offshoot of the "Burning Man" art festival.
After the festival, MacDaugall told police, he and David and Melissa parted ways. Before getting arrested, he planned to travel to Florida or to California. Really, he said, he just wanted to go to another Alchemy-like festival.
He was charged him with vandalism of a place of worship, records show.
