Furniture maker England Inc. announces Tennessee expansion

NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. - Furniture maker England Inc. is marking its 50th anniversary in Tennessee by announcing an expansion that will include 300 new jobs.

The $17.5 million expansion of the company's New Tazewell plant will take place over the next five years. The subsidiary of Monroe, Mich.-based La-Z-Boy Inc. is one of the largest employers in Claiborne County, with more than 1,000 current workers.

The expansion is necessary due to the addition of new product lines.

England has made upholstered furniture in East Tennessee since 1964. The company has several factories in Tennessee.

It is the second jobs announcement involving the furniture industry in recent days. Ergonomic office chair producer 9to5 Seating announced Monday it is moving its manufacturing operations from China to Union City in West Tennessee, creating 510 jobs.
