NTSB releases preliminary report on west Tennessee helicopter crash

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on a medical helicopter crash that killed a pilot and two hospital workers in West Tennessee.

The report released on the NTSB website shows that the helicopter was headed east when it began to climb and made a right turn to the south, away from the observed course. The helicopter was going 112 mph and was 1,560 feet above sea level at the last data point established by satellite tracking.

The report says the aircraft crashed into a wooded area about 6:05 a.m. on Oct. 22 in Somerville. The helicopter went down while on the way to pick up an ailing child in Bolivar.

NTSB investigator Ralph Hicks released similar details the day after the crash.
