Police officer shot near Atlanta expected to be OK

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. - Authorities say a police officer has been shot just south of Atlanta, but the wound is not expected to be life-threatening.

Fulton County police Cpl. Kay Lester tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the officer "is believed to be OK."

Lester said the shooting happened this morning on White City Road near College Park, just inside the Interstate 285 perimeter.

CBS Atlanta reports that the officer is a member of a Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team and was wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Lester said she did not yet have any details on what led to the officer's shooting, and did not know if a suspect was in custody.
