CLEVELAND, Tenn. - A judge has commuted the sentence for a death row inmate to life in prison.

The Cleveland Daily Banner reports the Judge Jon Blackwood granted the request during a hearing in August for John Patrick Henretta.

The judge noted in his ruling that Henretta's health had deteriorated so much that he was not expected to live much longer.

Henretta was convicted in 1988 of murder in the death of Bradley County resident Frances Rose Crabtree.
