Hamilton County Circuit Court Judge Jacqueline Schulten Bolton announced today that she will not seek re-election to her post next year.
"It has been my privilege to have been elected to serve the people of Hamilton County and Tennessee. I leave the bench with profound appreciation and respect for my colleagues on the bench and my fellow lawyers," she wrote in a letter to the Times Free Press.
Bolton started her career in Chattanooga at local TV Channel 9 and later worked at Channel 3 as a reporter and anchor before moving to a legal career. She was appointed Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge but did not win the subsequent election. Bolton has served as Circuit Court judge for 15 years.
Bolton joins Hamilton County District Attorney Bill Cox and Chancellor Frank Brown III who both announced this year that they would not seek re-election.
Her term expires in September 2014. Bolton wrote that she announced her decision at this time so that potential candidates would have time to prepare for the upcoming election.
