ATLANTA - A benchmark health care plan in Georgia will cost an average of $304 a month when purchased on an exchange under the Obama administration's health care overhaul.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released prices Wednesday before the exchange starts operating Oct. 1.
The cheapest silver plan will average about $304 monthly. Consumers can pick from four levels of coverage, from bronze to platinum. The plans cover the same benefits and cap out-of-pocket expenses. But the lower-tier plans require consumers to pay more in deductibles and copayments.
Federal officials will run Georgia's exchange. Republican Gov. Nathan Deal, who opposed the Obama administration plan, decided against expanding the state's Medicaid program to cover more of the uninsured, and against having the state run the exchange system.
