SELMA, Ala. - A Georgia man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for a fatal carjacking in Selma.
District Attorney Michael Jackson said a Dallas County jury found 29-year-old Quante Rice guilty of capital murder Thursday evening. Circuit Judge Collins Pettaway sentenced him to life in prison without parole.
The prosecutor said that in October 2004, Rice needed a ride home to Georgia, so he shot Morris Hatcher in the head at a Selma car wash and stole his Chevrolet Tahoe. It was later found abandoned near Rice's residence in College Park, Ga.
Rice was originally convicted and sentenced to life without parole in 2010, but a state appeals court overturned that conviction, which resulted in a new trial.
