MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Authorities say the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit that forced the integration of Montgomery's public schools has died.
Montgomery Police Lt. Regina Duckett says Arlam Carr Jr. has died at the age of 62.
WSFA-TV reports Carr died Thursday morning. Authorities weren't immediately sure of his cause of death.
Carr was the station's news director and worked his way up to that position after serving as a stage hand and master control operator.
The Montgomery Advertiser reported that Carr wanted to attend Sidney Lanier High School, and agreed to be named in a lawsuit against the school board if it meant he could enroll.
The case was decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Carr attended the University of Texas at El Paso and funeral arrangements have not been announced.
