Ohio man drowns at East Tennessee state park

CARYVILLE, Tenn. - Wildlife officials say an Ohio man has drowned at Cove Lake State Park in East Tennessee.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says in a press release that the body of 50-year-old James Hamblin, of Hamilton, Ohio, was recovered by a rescue diver Friday.

According to WBIR-TV, Hamblin and a friend, identified as Bill Roddy, had rented a small boat to go lake fishing.

Investigators say Hamblin stood up in the boat, causing both men to fall into the water at about 9 a.m. Friday. Roddy, of LaFollette, was able to swim to the boat, but Hamblin didn't make it and went underwater.

Roddy paddled the boat to the road and called for help.

Cove Lake State Park is located on the eastern edge of the Cumberland Mountains, in Caryville.
