New freeway interchange set to open in Atlanta

ATLANTA - A new interchange connecting Interstate 85 and Georgia 400 in metro Atlanta is set to open.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and other officials are planning a ceremony this afternoon to mark the opening of the new I-85/GA 400 interchange ramps.

Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Mark McKinnon tells WSB Radio that officials expect to open the ramps to traffic around 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials say the new flyover ramps will give southbound drivers on I-85 direct access to northbound Georgia 400, which connects Atlanta to many of its northern suburbs. The new interchange will also give southbound drivers on Georgia 400 a direct ramp to I-85 northbound.
