Man dies after encounter with family on GA road

FORSYTH, Ga. - Law officers in central Georgia are investigating the death of a man they say confronted a family in their SUV along a country road.

John Adam Bevan was driving with his family north of Forsyth around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday when he saw a man - later identified as 32-year-old Christopher Bryan Bunn of Forsyth - standing in the road, Monroe County sheriff's officials said.

Bevan told sheriff's deputies that when he stopped his Ford Explorer, the man jumped inside through a back door, where four children were sitting, The Telegraph of Macon reported.

Bunn ordered Bevan to "go, go, go ... move, move" and tried to reach the Explorer's gas pedal, the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Sheriff's officials say Bevan struggled to pull Bunn -- who they say tried to choke a woman in the front seat -- from the vehicle. Bevan managed to get Bunn out of the SUV, then wrestled him to the ground and held him there until deputies arrived, authorities said.

Bunn was handcuffed but soon deemed "'unresponsive" and later pronounced dead at a hospital, sheriff's officials said. An autopsy was planned.

The people in the Explorer did not know Bunn, Monroe County Sheriff John Cary Bittick said Wednesday. He has a Kentucky driver license, authorities said, and the Macon newspaper reports that he has lived in Owensboro, Ky.

No weapons were involved in the ordeal, the sheriff said. No charges have been filed.
