Plans for children's home in north Atlanta meet with opposition

MARIETTA, Ga. - Neighbors of a planned group home for neglected children in Atlanta's northern suburbs are objecting to the project.

Rachel Naddor tells The Marietta Daily Journal that she was surprised by the opposition she encountered at a Tuesday planning commission meeting. The commission recommended that her plans for the group home be denied.

Naddor had requested a special land use permit to open an orphanage in the home she purchased in 1997 on Clearwater Drive, between Powers Ferry Road and Lower Roswell Road. On Tuesday, she gave a 10-minute presentation to the commission about her passion to help at-risk or abused children.

Planning Commission Chairman Mike Terry he had been inundated with emails from people against the permit being granted, with at least a dozen in the past few days.
