Scammer reported in Shelby County collecting money from those missing jury duty

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Officials in Shelby County say a scammer is contacting people there and posing as a law enforcement officer collecting money for missing jury duty or court.

The sheriff's office says several people have contacted authorities in the past few days reporting someone identifying himself as Sgt. Jimmy Jackson. The sheriff's office says there is no employee of that agency by that name.

The caller advises the person answering that he or she has missed court, that a warrant has been issued and that the warrant can be dismissed upon payment of $460 through a prepaid credit card.

Authorities advise anyone receiving such a call to record it, not give any financial or personal information and contact the sheriff's office.
