Heavy rain drenches metro Atlanta, north Georgia

ATLANTA - Heavy rain drenched the metro Atlanta and much of the rest of north Georgia this morning, slowing traffic and prompting flood warnings.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued flash flood warnings for Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Fulton, and Heard counties through 1:15 p.m.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported rainfall totals through 7a .m. of 1.36 inches in Marietta, 1.48 inches at Atlanta's airport, 2.68 inches in Alpharetta, 2.79 inches in Cartersville, 2.82 inches in Dunwoody and 3.01 inches in Dallas.

Rain was expected to continue for much of the day.

To the west, in central Alabama, people had to be evacuated from a mobile home park and rescued from their vehicles because of flooding.
