Marion County Mayor John Graham was elected recently to be secretary of the Tennessee Association of County Mayors, an organization that represents county mayors and executives of the state's 95 counties.

Graham was elected and named to the association's executive committee during a recent annual conference held by the Tennessee County Services Association. The mayor's association is an affiliate of the county services association, according to a news release from the larger organization.

Before being appointed to the mayor's post in 2010 and retaining it in 2012 elections, Graham served as the county's highway superintendent.

In 2009, Graham was the recipient of the "Robert M. Wormsley Outstanding County Official of the Year" award by the county officials association. He is one of 10 recipients of the award.

Graham has followed in the footsteps of his father, former Marion County Highway Superintendent W.H. "Pete" Graham, who also served as the county officials association's third president.

Graham's resume includes a county "Citizen of the Year" title, chairman of the Marion County Railroad Authority board of directors, and a member of the county Planning Commission, the Southeast Tennessee Rural Planning Organization and Governor's Forest Management Advisory Panel. Graham currently is vice chairman of the Southeast Tennessee Development District.
