Memphis man sentenced to 9 years for chase that resulted in officer being injured

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of leading sheriff's deputies on a chase that resulted in one of the officers being injured.

Prosecutors say 41-year-old Daetrus Pilate tried to avoid being served with an arrest warrant on Aug. 16, 2011, by fleeing in a car. Prosecutors say Pilate drove over the foot of deputy Toby Shaw during the chase before being caught and arrested.

Deputies later served him with an arrest warrant on charges of child rape and other charges.

A jury convicted Pilate in February on a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He was sentenced Tuesday.

Pilate is scheduled to be tried Sept. 8 on child rape and other charges.
