Calhoun, Ga., police conduct alcohol sales checks

Calhoun, Ga., police and agents of the Georgia Department of Revenue conducted 30 undercover operations related to alcohol sales Tuesday.

An agent of the Calhoun police attempted to purchase alcohol at 30 locations in the city, 29 of which were found to be in compliance with state laws, a news release states.

However, the agent successfully purchased alcohol from the BP convenience store at 756 Highway 53, violating state law and local ordinance. The clerk who sold it, Zackery Chitwood of Calhoun, was cited for selling alcohol to a person under age 21.

In an unrelated matter, Calhoun police have arrested Eric Quigley, 19, of Calhoun, in connection with an April 1 theft on Waterford Drive.

On April 1 at about 9:30 am, a resident of the Waterford Apartments told officers that he had left his keys in his truck when he entered his home. Shortly after, he heard a vehicle start and saw his 1996 Chevrolet truck being driven out of the parking lot. The truck was recovered about 6 p.m. that day.

Detectives gathered evidence that linked Quigley to the theft and an arrest warrant was issued Wednesday. Quigley was taken into custody without incident at his Maudlin Road residence.

He is being held in the Gordon County Jail pending bond proceedings.
